-
Maternal & Fetal Medicine (High-Risk Pregnancy) Specialist
I was born in 1966 in Ankara. I completed my primary, secondary and high school education at TED Ankara College ('83). In the same year, I entered Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. In line with my desire to follow medicine and the developments in the western world closely, which started in my student years, I did an internship in the field of Orthopedics at Birmingham Accident Hospital and Cardiovascular Surgery at Birmingham Queen Elisabeth Hospital in 1985 and graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1989.
In 1990, Dr. I started my obstetrics specialization at Zekai Tahir Burak Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital. I did my thesis in the field of HighRisk Pregnancies (perinatology), which is my special interest. I presented my randomized prospective study on "Use of steroids and antibiotics in early membrane ruptures; in the form of 4 presentations at the World Perinatology Congress held in Jerusalem. Between 1994-1995, at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC, Denver, USA), one of the few authorities in the world on Perinatal Infections, Prof. Dr. I worked with Ronald Gibbs. I have been involved in various research and animal studies that have turned into many articles which will guide our daily practice with regard to Group B streptococcal infection. I entered the research committees at UCHSC and received a certificate of outstanding achievement for the projects I carried out.
Between 1996-2000, I did a clinical fellowship on High-Risk Pregnancies at Mount Sinai Hospital & Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York, USA) and worked as a lecturer and
trainer at the same clinic. It has always been important to me to pass on what I know. As a matter of fact, during this period, I was deemed worthy of the 1999 Assistant Training Special Achievement Award by my students at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
I had the privilege to work with Prof. Richard Berkowitz, Chairman of the Department of High-Risk Pregnancies at Mount Sinai Hospital, the most important reference center on
the east coast of the USA. This center is very well known for fetal interventional procedures, fetal treatment, multiple pregnancies, and their specific problems. During my tenure there, I also contributed to the literature through my outstanding research.
In the meantime, I also worked with Carolyn Salafia, a Perinatal Pathology lecturer at Columbia University, on placental pathologies. I conducted my research and clinical and
experimental studies proving the effects of recurrent pregnancy loss, multiple pregnancies, fetal reduction, placental histopathologies in preterm birth, and the effects of meconium on microorganisms that cause umbilical cord and intrauterine infections.
These studies were presented at the Society for Gynecologic Investigation and Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine meetings and appeared in many respected journals. After my studies in the USA, I came back to realize my ideals in our country and to be with my family, who gave me a lot of effort and raised me.
Between 2000 and 2003, I worked at BaÅŸkent University,
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology founded the Department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and received
the title of Associate Professor in 2003. In the same year, I came to Acıbadem Kadıköy Hospital and led the establishment of the
High-Risk Pregnancies Unit. I played an important role in the establishment and structuring of Kadıköy Hospital, BaÄŸdat Caddesi Maternal Fetus Health Center, Kocaeli Hospital, and Maslak Hospital High-Risk Pregnancy Units, respectively, and contributed significantly to its development.
In 2009, during the establishment of the Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine, I took an active role in many committees within the university and worked in the structuring phase. I also worked as a lecturer during the organization of the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Department. In 2009, I pioneered the establishment of the Fetal Neurology Group. In particular, I worked with radiology, pediatric neurology, genetics, neonatal and pathology specialists for the placement of a multidisciplinary approach to fetal central nervous
system abnormalities, and contributed to the creation of joint approaches and protocols.
Again in 2009, I took part in the literature with the technique I developed for the first time in the world for multiple pregnancy reduction. The effectiveness of this method has been
successfully proven in selected cases and has been referenced and used by many researchers.
I left Acıbadem Healthcare Group in 2010 and started working in my own private clinic. In parallel also worked as the Head of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Memorial Health Group Ataşehir Hospital between 2010-2014. Between 2016-2020 I worked as the head of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine at Liv Hospital Ulus. During this period, I also took part in various committees in the structuring and organizational studies during the establishment of the Istinye University Faculty of Medicine and contributed to the opening of many masters and doctoral programs. During this period, I also served as the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at İstinye University.
As of 2021, I decided to continue my practice only in my clinic, collaborating with A + hospitals in Istanbul, where our understanding of personalized high-quality service is
of utmost importance. During this period, I still carry out joint studies on the basis of scientific research, collaboration, and case studies with many international figures, each of whom is considered to be important authority in their own field.
Below is a list of my collaborators; Prof. Dr. Mary Dalton Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and Gynecology Columbia University, Prof. Dr. Richard Berkowitz Education Coordinator, Columbia University; Professor Joanne Stone Mount Sinai Medical Center New York, Professor Dr. Carolyn Salafia Developmental pathology New York University. Prof. Dr. Ronald Gibbs Vice Dean, Stanford University; Prof. Dr. Orhan Bükülmez UT Texas Director of Assisted Reproductive Techniques and IVF Department. Based on the importance of maintaining my academic identity; I have over 70 articles published in domestic and foreign journals, over 100 congress presentations, over 605 congress speeches, and chaired many scientific meetings and symposiums. I have written
chapters for over 10 books and contributed to 3 books as an editor.
